As the days begin to lengthen and the season shifts toward spring, March presents us with an opportunity to pause, reflect, and seek rest in the midst of life’s busyness. This time of year, particularly during Lent, invites us to slow down and realign our hearts with God. Amid the demands of everyday life, we are reminded of the importance of resting in His presence and trusting Him with the burdens we carry. In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus extends an invitation to us:
“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.“

This month, let’s embrace the invitation to rest—spiritually, mentally, and physically—as we prepare our hearts for the journey of Lent and the new life that comes with Easter.
The Invitation to Rest
In a world that often values productivity and constant activity, rest can feel elusive. However, God’s word teaches us that true rest is found in Him. In Psalm 23:1-2, David writes, “Yahweh is my shepherd; I shall lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.” God’s rest is not only physical—it is spiritual and emotional. He invites us to surrender our anxieties and burdens, trusting that He will restore our souls.
Lent as a Season of Reflection
Lent is an invitation to step away from the noise of life, examine our hearts, and turn our focus back to God. In this season, we can find rest by letting go of distractions and giving God space to speak into our lives. Isaiah 40:31 encourages us:
“but those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength.
They will mount up with wings like eagles.
They will run, and not be weary.
They will walk, and not faint.”
Lent offers us a chance to remember that true strength and renewal come from resting in God’s presence, not in our own efforts.
Rest Through Prayer and Reflection
One of the most powerful ways to find rest in busy seasons is through prayer and quiet reflection. Taking time to connect with God helps us reset our hearts and minds, shifting our focus from the demands of the world to the peace that He offers. Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us to pray:
“In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.“

This month, let’s prioritize moments of prayer and stillness to allow God’s peace to fill us and bring us rest.
Sabbath Rest: A Gift from God
Rest is not only a suggestion from God but a command. In the midst of our busy lives, the Sabbath remains a vital practice, giving us a rhythm of work and rest. Exodus 20:8-10 instructs us, “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. You shall labor six days, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to Yahweh your God. You shall not do any work in it, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your livestock, nor your stranger who is within your gates.” The Sabbath provides intentional time to pause, refresh, and recalibrate. It’s a gift that God offers to help us find balance and refuel spiritually, mentally, and physically.
A Prayer for Rest and Reflection
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of rest and the invitation to come to You in our weariness. In this busy season of life, help us to find moments of quiet reflection and stillness in Your presence. Renew our strength, restore our souls, and help us to trust You with every burden. As we journey through this season of Lent, prepare our hearts for the joy of Easter, and may we find rest in the hope of Your resurrection. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Moving Forward in Rest
This March, let us commit to finding rest in the midst of our busy seasons. By prioritizing moments of reflection, prayer, and Sabbath rest, we open our hearts to God’s peace and renewal. As we journey through Lent, may we find deeper rest in His presence and experience the transformation that comes from surrendering our burdens to Him.
